The project entails the following:
- Milling and overlay of traffic lanes on Sunport Boulevard
- Removal of the existing pavement section
- Installation of new asphalt concrete
- Application of a new open graded friction course on the segment between the I-25 Interchange and Sunport Terminal Loop to replace the existing surface and improve vehicle traction and drainage
New Mexico’s full congressional delegation including Senators Martin Heinrich and Ben Ray Luján and Representatives Teresa Leger Fernández, Melanie Stansbury, and Gabe Vasquez, played a role in securing the funds. “This is a major win for Albuquerque,” said Mayor Tim Keller. “The Sunport is not only a gateway to our city but also a driver of economic growth and connectivity for the entire region. These upgrades to Sunport Boulevard are a smart infrastructure investment that will keep traffic moving safely and efficiently for years to come.”
The request for construction proposals will be issued Wednesday, July 16 and responses will be due Aug. 19. Construction is expected to start later this year with “minimal disruption to traffic flow.”…
