Nuclear fusion company looks at Albuquerque for potential new site

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – A facility capable of creating the same kind of energy generated by the sun could make its way to Albuquerque. The state has announced a tentative plan, that would make the city a hub for the burgeoning field of fusion energy.

The technology was developed at Sandia Labs, and now, the California-based company using it is looking to put it to use in Albuquerque. They say the $1 billion site could bring clean energy and more than 200 jobs.

“The US and New Mexico is leading this charge, creating fusion technology here, we will be energy independent, and it will be clean energy independent, and that’s a place of leadership that New Mexico wants to be,” said Rob Black, Cabinet Secretary for the New Mexico Economic Development Department…
