Albuquerque man takes plea deal for attacking mother, throwing her into river

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – After being found competent to stand trial last year, Martin Montano took a plea deal Tuesday. Montano is accused of attacking his mother and throwing her into the Rio Grande in 2013.

Albuquerque man sentenced to nearly four years in prison on two convictions

In June 2013, police say Montano attacked his mother, Hope Montano, and her roommate in their northeast Albuquerque home. They say Montano slit their throats, kidnapped them and took them to the Central Ave. bridge. Montano threw his mother off the bridge and into the Rio Grande, but was stopped before he could throw her friend over. Both women survived the attack.

Tuesday, Montano pleaded no contest to two counts of kidnapping and two counts of attempted murder. He is facing up to 25 years behind bars when sentenced. A sentencing date has not been set…
