BERNALILLO COUNTY, N.M. — It takes a village to raise a child – and to protect one.
That’s why the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office is working with New Mexico’s Children, Youth and Families Department on monthly “safe child” operations to address low-level referrals before they become emergencies.
“We’re trying to go above and beyond to address some of these concerns with these families,” said Sgt. Justin Roybal, of BCSO’s Special Victims Unit. “Maybe the family doesn’t have enough food in the home. They’re dirtier conditions. But it may not rise to a criminal level or a felony level case for a detective to follow up on.”…
