APD address latest police shootings involving a mental health crisis

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — A July 4 shooting involving the Albuquerque Police Department and a man with autism is bringing police shootings back in the spotlight. It is the second time this month that officers have responded with deadly force to a call for someone having a mental health crisis.

The situation began shortly after noon when APD received a call to go to the 2100 block of South Branch Dr. SW. APD reported 21-year-old Jerry Baldonado brandished a gun at officers.
