Albuquerque City Council tackles amendment to H.E.A.R.T. Ordinance Monday

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – Monday marks the first day back for Albuquerque city councilors. On the agenda is an amendment to an ordinance that prohibits the sale of animals without proper permitting.

Albuquerque City Council approves tax incentive for Sawmill development

It’s called the H.E.A.R.T. Ordinance, or the Humane and Ethical Animal Rules and Treatment Bill. Its aim is to control the overpopulation of animals in Albuquerque.

Local advocates say the ordinance lacks enforcement, especially when it comes to Albuquerque’s unhoused population. Councilor Tammy Fiebelkorn looks to make amendments to her bill, which states if people do not follow the proper permitting, they could be facing a petty misdemeanor charge and have their animals taken from them.
