[1] APD: Seven-year-old tells police he watched mother kill his sister – An Albuquerque woman is behind bars, accused of killing her one-year-old daughter. Police said it happened at a home in northwest Albuquerque on Saturday. Vanessa Chavez was arrested on Wednesday for child abuse resulting in death. CYFD told police the girl was born with drugs in her system and had been taken away from her parents shortly after birth, but was placed her back in her parents’ home last month on a trial period. Her seven-year-old told police his mom was “bad to his sister” and slammed her into the wall. Investigators discovered bruising and other injuries to the baby. An autopsy later revealed scattered bruising to the head and neck area and a large subdural hemorrhage that was likely caused by trauma.

[2] Feds pressure ABQ to end immigrant-friendly policies; Mayor Keller says he won’t cave – The White House is ramping up pressure on Albuquerque, demanding the city abandon its immigrant-friendly stance. If Albuquerque does not comply, the city could face legal consequences or risk losing federal funding. Mayor Keller refuted the White House’s assertion that such policies endanger public safety, arguing instead that they help protect residents.

[3] Hot temperatures with more storms ahead – Very hot temperatures with possible record highs continue across New Mexico this week. Thursday will see more record to near-record heat with a few scattered showers and storms. Heat Advisories go into effect again Thursday afternoon for the Metro, Farmington, and southeastern New Mexico.
