ABQ BioPark helping their residents beat the heat

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – Some areas across the state are under a heat advisory, including Albuquerque. The Albuquerque BioPark says they are making sure their animals stay cool.

From shade structures to water and misters, the BioPark says keeping animals comfortable and healthy is a big part of their everyday work. “Multiple habitats feature some sort of water feature or pool for animals that enjoy being in the water. The pools also double as a form of enrichment for animals who enjoy taking a dip,” says Erin Dougher with the ABQ BioPark.

Some animals prefer to cool down out of the water by rolling around in the dirt. The BioPark says they accommodate every animal’s preference, and of course, on the extra hot days, just like people, animals may choose to stay indoors…
