Local athlete wins gold in pentathlon at USATF youth jr Olympics

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – Every year, Zia Track Club sends a contingency to the national track and field meet. This year, one of its athletes made history.

Miles Vroman, a rising freshman at Sandia Prep, dominated the field in the 13-14 pentathlon. Vroman earned a first-place finish in high jump, second in 100m hurdles, second in shot put, third in long jump, and 12th in the 1500m. In total, he finished with 3,049 points and a winning margin of 160.

“It was scary because it’s all on the line right there,” he said. “But after that, it felt really good, it felt awesome. I don’t think there’s anything better. It feels so good stepping up on the top step after all your work.”…
