4 Investigates: CYFD employees say ABQ office struggles to keep kids safe

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — It’s a question employees at the New Mexico Department of Children, Youth and Families Pinetree Receiving Center started asking as soon as a kind driver returned the boy to their doorstep: How did a little boy in CYFD custody slip out of a state office unnoticed and wander into Albuquerque traffic?

The receiving center at CYFD’s Pinetree office on Albuquerque’s Indian School Road is supposed to be temporary; a short stay when young children are removed from their homes or if there’s a problem with placement.

But one employee tells 4 Investigates it’s become something else…
