ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – Nearly a month after a shooting took the life of a 14-year-old boy on the University of New Mexico’s campus, the university is taking steps to boost campus safety. At Tuesday night’s meeting, the Board of Regents approved $2.6 million in upgrades to update UNM’s campus-wide alert system, but they’re not stopping there.

“Like the rest of the Lobo community, I remain very concerned about the disturbing incident that recently occurred on our Albuquerque campus that left a young person dead,” said UNM President Garnett Stokes to regents.
Stokes opened Tuesday night’s meeting, speaking about the recent tragedy on campus that claimed the life of 14-year-old Michael Lamotte, “These can seem like trying in uncertain times, so believe me, I assure you it has all of my attention.”…
