UNM students fundraise for Gila Garden expansion

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – A couple of University of New Mexico students are turning to the community to help fund their unique project. The group has already started to build a garden on the roof of Castetter Hall, but they’re raising money to add even more research projects to benefit the university’s biology department.

UNM already has the Lobo and Hokona gardens, but they started this project to expand the many branches of biology research the university provides, like microbial ecology, mycology, and water sustainability.

“We’re doing some really cool, important work on soil remediation, and I’m looking to do something similar with algae and water,” said the project manager, David Nelson-Hooker…
