ALBUQUERQUE – Matilda’s Mark clearly made the most of her return to her home state of New Mexico, breaking her maiden and earning her first career stakes win in a 12-length romp in the $75,000 Petticoat Stakes Saturday night at Albuquerque Downs.
The Todd Fincher-trained daughter of Marking, making her first start in New Mexico after a pair of starts at Lone Star Park in Texas, took command of the race passing the half-mile pole under jockey Luis Valenzuela, quickly leaving her opponents behind, racing 6½ furlongs in a time of 1 minute, 16.43 seconds.
Matilda’s Mark, a 3-year-old filly owned by Fincher Racing LLC, was fourth in her most recent start against maiden company on July 3. She becomes the first winner of a thoroughbred stakes race in New Mexico since the closing day of the SunRay Park season in May…
