Retired NMSP officer accused of drug trafficking

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – A former New Mexico State Police officer is spending his retirement on the other side of the law. He’s accused of drug trafficking.

State police pulled Carlos Antonio Perea over on Aug. 5. According to a criminal complaint, a K-9 officer alerted to drugs in the car and in the tires.

Perea and a passenger, Catherine Anne Schmidt, were arrested. Police say there were around 140 pounds of drugs in the car…
