Albuquerque man sentenced for fatal 2023 shooting

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – An Albuquerque man with an extensive criminal history went before a judge to be sentenced Friday morning. Raymond Davila, 52, had pleaded no contest for a fatal shooting of Eddie Diaz in 2023.

On December 31, the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call from a witness who heard gunshots and saw Diaz’s Jeep crash into their fence. The witness also said he saw a man from the house where the gunshots came from get into a gold truck and drive. Deputies found Diaz with multiple gunshot wounds. He later died. Police say a neighbor told deputies that days earlier, Diaz complained that a man named Diablo stole a gun from him and demanded it back. On January 6, the Albuquerque Police Department responded to reports of a suspicious truck that had been painted black with the license plate removed. Through that, detectives found Davila’s connection to the crime.

Judge Bruce Fox sentenced Davila to four years behind bars. The judge took some time off the maximum sentence, citing Davila’s age and health issues…
