ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – Seven finalists showed up to the 12th Annual Green Chile Cheeseburger Smackdown Saturday. Those restaurant contestants were determined by secret judges who actually traveled around the state trying burgers.
The organizers say a lot goes into choosing the very best. Step one: It’s got to be chile-icious. “Chile-icious means it’s got fantastic chile flavor, but it does not mean chile overpower the burger. You’ve got to chase the burger. Got to taste it all,” says organizer Walt Cameron.

“We’re also looking for burger ability. Can you pick up the burger and hold it, and it doesn’t fall apart,” says organizer Stephanie Cameron.
Those secret judges crowned Umami Moto Food Truck with the award for best burger. Meanwhile, all of the visitors at the event got to choose their favorite burger, too. The people’s choice and the judge’s choice both went to the Tika Spice Food Truck…
