ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – The inaugural Run the Runway Mutt Strut event was Saturday morning at the Double Eagle II Airport. It was marked by a celebration of people and their dogs, as well as the airport’s expansion. One hundred and twenty people and 50 dogs participated in the 5k run.
“This is my first time to the airport,” runners Agapito and Moose Lopez said. “I thought it was a small little airport, and it’s a lot bigger than I thought. When we went down the first runway, I was like, ‘This is pretty small. But then we got to the big runway and I was like, ‘Wow, this is massive.”
Agapito and Moose finished in second place in the 3.1-mile run. “I was like, ‘I wanna do a race with him,’” Agapito said. “I’m always running alone unless I’m training with him. So I was wondering how he would do, and he did great!”

This was exactly the goal of the event: to bring people together to see how far the airport has come. “We really wanna celebrate Double Eagle II, the development we’re working on out here, and the fact that this is a community airport,” City of Albuquerque Aviation Deputy Director Manny Manriquez said. “We’ve got general aviation and public safety operations out here.”…
