Albuquerque officials share more about results on downtown parking study

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – There are thousands of spaces to park in downtown Albuquerque, but plenty of people still complain about it being hard to find a spot. Months into a study aimed at making parking better, the city now said it has some potential fixes.

The City of Albuquerque said roughly one-third of downtown property is dedicated to parking. However, a lot of people don’t know where to park or feel safe. Those two things are part of what the city is now hoping to fix. “We’ve learned that people really have a lot of different impressions about parking downtown. Either there’s too much or there’s too little or somewhere in between,” said Director of the Metropolitan Redevelopment Agency Terry Brunner.

While there are more than 21,000 parking spaces downtown, the city said the overwhelming response it’s found is that many people said it’s still difficult to find a spot. It’s a problem they’re now aiming to solve, while nearing the end of a year-long downtown parking study. “We’re really focusing on growing the economy downtown and commercial and retail industries.
