ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – The Albuquerque Police Department recently completed renovations to its downtown headquarters on Roma Ave. The building was built in the 1970s and had significant concerns with the conditions.

The second and third floors of this building were so old and unusable that it forced the staff to work out of a rented building downtown. The third floor had wires hanging from the ceiling. Workers on the second floor were complaining of dust and odors blowing from air vents, prompting police to do something about it.”They rented another facility for the officers, and now we can actually house them here instead of using a rented space,” Department of Municipal Development Project Manager Carlos Montoya said.
Montoya said they had to gut the entire two floors and remove asbestos, followed by the rebuild. Now, freshly opened, there are new holding cells, investigation rooms, and office space. “We had rooms that looked like code enforcement should come out and do something about them because they were so deteriorated,” Albuquerque Police Chief Harold Medina said…
