WATCH: APD holds press conference on two recent officer-involved shootings

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – The Albuquerque Police Department (APD) will be holding a press conference at 3:00 p.m. Friday, September 12, to release details on two recent officer-involved shootings. The press conference can be watched on this page.

One incident happened on the afternoon of August 2 in the area of Chelwood Park and Menaul. AFR was on the scene handling a call when they heard gunshots in the area. When officers arrived, two women approached them, claiming that one of them was involved in a domestic disturbance and confirming the gunshots. At that point, a man emerged from behind a car with a gun in his hand. Officers reported that they were giving commands in both English and Spanish for him to drop the weapon.  One officer discharged her 40-millimeter less-than-lethal weapon before at least one lethal round was fired by another officer. The man died on the scene.

On August 19, an officer-involved shooting happened at the Los Altos Lofts at 10330 Hotel Ave. APD says a female was shot and taken to the hospital, where she died. Police say they received a call in reference to a female who had no clothes on and was armed with two knives. The woman returned to her apartment and shortly after came out running towards the police with a knife in her hand. APD says an officer shot the woman…
