Bernalillo County set to begin designing first trail southwest of the Rio Grande & Central

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – Bernalillo County has now acquired funding for a multi-use trail project, which has been in the works for about 20 years. It’s part of a greater $4.6 million grant from the feds and the state for a multitude of improvements.

The Isleta Drain Trail will be the first multi-use trail built west of the Rio Grande and south of Central. The entire trail will stretch 13 miles long. Phase 1 will go from Central Avenue down to Blake Road. Neighbors said they’ve been advocating for a trail for many years, and it’s long overdue. “Albuquerque’s south valley in Bernalillo County needs a trail, and I think this one will be a big asset,” Atrisco Viejo Neighborhood Association President Theresa Baca said. “I think the community will be happy with it.”…
