[1] APD releases details on recent officer-involved shootings – According to APD, a woman called 911 on August 2, first reporting that she had a broken wrist. When paramedics arrived they reported hearing gunshots from within the home. The woman called APD again and said her husband had a gun and was making threats. Police arrived on scene and spotted Hernandez leave the house with a gun, and officers gave him commands to drop the weapon. Hernandez continued to dismiss APD’s demands and fired the gun into a cinderblock. After two unsuccessful firings of non-lethal rounds, an officer fired his rifle. Hernandez died at the scene, the incident is still under investigation.

[2] Pueblo governors observe oil and gas industry damage to Chaco Canyon – New Mexico’s Pueblo governors took flight over Chaco Canyon to see firsthand the damaging effects of the oil and gas industry. Officials say a lot of damage has already been done and that Indigenous people need to band together to protect the sacred land. The governors say they plan on heading to Washington, D.C. to call for the permanent protection of the Greater Chaco Region.

[3] Chilly start to a warmer day with few storms – Temperatures are expected to warm into the 80s for the start of the work week in the ABQ metro area. A bit of moisture in the atmosphere will spark spotty showers and thunderstorms across southern New Mexico and a few mountains.
