New Mexico’s first dental college opens its doors in Albuquerque

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) –  Hoping to crack into New Mexico’s lack of oral health professionals, the state’s first dental college is now opening its doors in Albuquerque.

The New York-based Touro College of Dental Medicine’s new building in southeast Albuquerque is now teaching students on site, for the first time, letting future dentists get all of their training in New Mexico. “Today’s ribbon cutting is more than opening a building. It’s about opening the door for opportunity for education patient care, and community service,” said Joseph Parkinson, Executive Assistant Dean, Touro College of Dental Medicine, New Mexico Campus.

The 70,000-square-foot school on Gibson Blvd. near San Pedro Dr., includes more than 100 dental stations where people can learn about or get general dentistry services, oral surgery, orthodontics, and even pediatric tooth care all under one roof. “This magnificent facility we recognize here today will help address the oral health needs of New Mexico,” shared excitedly Doctor Ronnie Myers, Dean of Touro College of Dental Medicine New York Medical Campus. “Establishing the first pre-doctoral dental education program in the state will encourage New Mexico students to obtain their dental education here.”…
