Child abuse arrests, West Nile Virus, More storms ahead, Affordable housing complex, Anti-litter commercial

[1] Parents arrested after baby rushed to the hospital with life-threatening injuries – First responders received a 911 call from parents saying their three-month-old baby fell off a couch and choked and was not responding. AFR showed up and rushed the baby to the hospital. Doctors determined the baby suffered from a fractured skull, multiple brain hemorrhages and severe bruising. The baby is still at the hospital with life-threatening injuries. Her parents, Jessica Brusuelas and Jonathan Castillo are facing multiple charges. Brusuelas told police Castillo had been abusing the baby, often while high on fentanyl or meth.

[2] West Nile virus hits close to home for New Mexico senator – A state senator is urging vigilance after the West Nile virus put her husband in the ICU. The New Mexico department of health says the state has seen 25 cases of West Nile so far this year. While that number isn’t out of the ordinary, more could come as September is considered part of peak season for cases. Senator Nicole Tobiassen says her husband’s auto-immune disorder made the virus especially severe.

[3] Storms to migrate east, still warm and breezy weather – Another round of afternoon showers and storms will develop in southern and eastern New Mexico Wednesday afternoon. A few of these storms will likely turn strong to severe in eastern parts of the state, with gusty winds and heavy rainfall the biggest threats.
