Man who reportedly threatened school shooting released

A Farmington man who threatened a school shooting was ordered released from custody Thursday by a Sandoval County judge.

Ernest Begay, 45, was arrested Aug. 21 on charges of making a school threat – a fourth-degree felony – along with assault upon a school employee, disorderly conduct and interference with public officials, all misdemeanors.

Begay was on probation at the time of his arrest and had numerous prior convictions, including battery on a health care worker, attempted battery on a peace officer, battery on a peace officer, robbery, and assault and battery, according to a pretrial detention motion filed Aug. 22 by the San Juan County District Attorney’s Office…
