RIO RANCHO, N.M. (KRQE) – She spent more than three decades as Rio Rancho Schools’ only superintendent. Now, longtime educator, Dr. Sue Cleveland, said she’s stepping down. She spoke to KRQE News 13 about the impact the superintendent hopes she left on the community. “Amazing journey and I’m just so thankful that I was a part of that,” said Dr. V. Sue Cleveland, Superintendent for Rio Rancho Public Schools.

That journey for Dr. V. Sue Cleveland started in 1994, taking Rio Rancho Schools from a brand new district to one of the top performing in the state. Now 31 years in, Cleveland said it’s time for a change. “This is a very bittersweet decision for me, but there comes a point when you say it’s maybe time for new ideas and it’s just time to pass the baton to someone else,” said Dr. Cleveland.
The district started with just 5,900 students in seven schools. “You know, I don’t even think I knew what I was getting myself into. When I got here, all we had was a table, and a file cabinet, and a loaned computer, and a loaned copy machine,” said Dr. Cleveland…
