ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – The Bernalillo County District Attorney says a 17-year-old accused of killing a man at a westside Albuquerque apartment complex will remain in custody while his case goes through the judicial process.

Investigators say on September 18, the teen shot a man in the face at the Rio Volcan Apartments on Ladera Drive NW. Officers were able to look at security cameras and identified the 17-year-old in the shooting. Police say the suspect told them he was outside drinking alcohol with a friend and then ran from the scene when he witnessed the shooting. The teen later told officers the shooting was in self-defense. The victim has not yet been identified. The teen suspect is facing charges of murder, tampering with evidence and unlawful possession of a firearm.
