Metro Court warns of scam callers fraudulently threatening arrest

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The Bernalillo County Metropolitan Court is warning about sophisticated scamming calls threatening to arrest people on fraudulent warrants.

According to the court, the scammer has often posed as a sheriff’s deputy and told people they missed court and have a warrant for their arrest. They reportedly cite names of local judges and deputies, provide detailed personal information about the person (e.g., vehicle make and model, driver’s license number) and threaten to arrest them if they didn’t pay.

The scammer even reportedly instructed people on how to withdraw money, where to go to send it – and to stay on the line to avoid being pulled over and arrested…
