ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – A once-powerful New Mexico lawmaker now facing trial, accused of stealing millions of dollars from Albuquerque Public Schools, has opened a new legal battle. Sheryl Williams Stapleton is suing the Albuquerque Police Department, claiming the SWAT team damaged her home when arresting her son.

It was the end of an intense standoff with APD SWAT inside the home of former state lawmaker Sheryl Williams Stapleton. In March 2022, officers arrested Stapleton’s son, David Hendrickson, after he failed to appear in court for an assault case. That case from was January 2022, where Hendrickson was accused of pointing a gun at a man.
Two months after that arrest, an Albuquerque police SWAT team moved in to arrest Hendrickson 12 hours after they started negotiating with him to surrender. And it’s that forced entry that Stapleton is in part citing in her lawsuit against APD. The former state representative is accusing police of damaging several places in her home…
