ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – It’s an innovative proposal for new, cheap housing that can go up within days. Now, several empty city lots in Albuquerque are set to transform into affordable and often first-time homes.

A patch of dirt and rocks in downtown Albuquerque sits empty, and it’s the same story for a spot near Old Coors Rd. and Central Ave., and another piece of land near Zuni Rd. and Mesilla St. “These lots have been vacant for a really long time. It’s hard to find a use for them,” said Terry Brunner, Director of the Metropolitan Redevelopment Agency.
The city is working with the Piru Group on a proposal to transform these city-owned spaces into affordable housing units. “At Third and Mountain, we’re looking at building 10 Boxabl casitas here.
