FARMINGTON, N.M. (KRQE) – Monday night, the head of the New Mexico Association of Chiefs of Police is calling for an apology from a state representative. The representative from Albuquerque compared United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement and police departments working with them to the KKK. “I just picked up my stuff and left. I didn’t really know what else to do, but I wasn’t going to sit there and have our men and women be slandered,” said Farmington Police Department Chief Steve Hebbe.
Chief Hebbe was the only uniformed officer in the room last week during a legislative committee meeting when tensions arose over immigration. “I’m just sitting in the audience, and when they started down the path, I get the emotion of the topic I do,” said Hebbe.
