Mayoral candidate ends campaign amid low polling and battery allegations
The race to be the mayor of Albuquerque now has six candidates. The Albuquerque Journal’s Gillian Barkhurst reports that mayoral candidate Daniel Chavez has withdrawn from the race. Chavez said in a statement today that his withdrawal was in response to an Albuquerque Journal poll showing him with the support of about 1 percent of those responding.
Last week, the Journal reported that Chavez currently faces a misdemeanor battery charge related to an incident in which a former campaign staffer says they were inappropriately touched by Chavez. The Journal reports a complaint filed in Metropolitan Court says that Chavez “grabbed and patted (a former staffer’s) buttocks twice without consent.”…
