Albuquerque Jersey Mike’s franchise owner killed in car crash

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The Albuquerque-based owner of a Jersey Mike’s restaurant franchise in New Mexico was killed in a crash at a city park in Mesilla.

The Mesilla Marshals Office identified David Leyva as the man who died in a car crash near a city park early Saturday morning. Leyva owns restaurants in Albuquerque and Santa Fe and was in Mesilla while visiting the Jersey Mike’s in Las Cruces.

Around 2:30 a.m., Saturday, Mesilla deputies responded to a 911 call about a car crashing in a city park. They found a white BMW, crashed near the water fountain with the driver inside.

While negotiating a curve on southbound Calle de Paso, approaching Pecana Street, an investigation found the BMW hit a curb and went airborne. The BMW flipped three times on the lawn and came to rest facing east near the fountain…
