Third person facing charges in UNM dorm room shooting appears in court

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – The third person facing charges connected to the deadly shooting of a 14-year-old boy at the University of New Mexico has been arrested. Daniel Archuleta, 19, made his first appearance in court on Tuesday since police arrested him on several charges, including tampering with evidence. According to court documents, 14-year-old Michael LaMotte, his half-brother Zion Miera, and John Fuentas entered Archuleta’s dorm room back in July, using drugs and passing guns around.

At one point, police said Fuentes opened fire, killing LaMotte, while a gunshot grazed Archeuleta. Fuentes, Archuleta, and Miera all fled the scene, but police said Archuleta and Miera returned to the room and fled again, this time carrying two bags. Officers later found those bags empty. Text messages also indicate Archuleta told Miera not to talk with police.

Fuentes is charged with murder. Miera is also accused of tampering with evidence…
