United Way tackling hunger with Day of Caring

NEW MEXICO (KRQE) – United Way of North Central New Mexico has been tackling systemic problems affecting families and children, and this weekend, they addressed food insecurity. For their annual Day of Caring Event, they held a community food drive.

Attendees were asked to bring non-perishable food items. The group says that one in five New Mexican children face food insecurity, and a large portion of this weekend’s food drive goes to one nonprofit that is trying to help fix that.

CNM expands food pantry network

“We are teh recipients of a lot of this food. We have a mobile food pantry that happens once a month, and it just doesn’t go far enough for our clients. After a week or two, they’re calling us saying, ‘We need more,’ so this will be great and helpful in those efforts,” said Natasha Gacinski with Catholic Charities.
