Albuquerque man with history of driving drunk remains behind bars

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – An Albuquerque man will remain behind bars after being accused of driving drunk and injuring a police officer. Tuesday in court, Judge Cindy Leos ruled Clayton Means will remain in jail while awaiting trial.

Means is accused of traveling westbound on Gibson and crashing into a patrol that was already on scene responding to a different traffic crash, injuring the officer. Police found an empty liquor bottle and a loaded handgun on the floorboard of Means’ vehicle. According to reports, Means was confrontational with officers and refused blood tests or medical care.

In 2019 officers responded to a crash at Ouray and 57th Street. They tried to pull over a vehicle driven Means, which appeared to be involved in the crash. Police say he took off, driving the wrong way at times in the middle of busy traffic. They eventually caught Means near Unser and Ladera where they say he admitted to drinking.
