Man who started Los Lunas bosque fire pleads no contest to negligent arson charge

LOS LUNAS, N.M. (KRQE) – The man accused of setting fire to the bosque, which caused damage to homes in Los Lunas and injured firefighters, has pleaded no contest to negligent arson and criminal damage to property. Jacob Lahair was accused of starting the Cotton 1 Fire after witnesses told investigators Lahair flicked a cigarette into a pile of cotton from the cottonwoods, igniting the fire.

Man accused of trafficking runaway teen in Albuquerque

LaHair was sentenced to four years in prison, along with parole and 18 months of supervised probation. In a news release, the 13th Judicial District Attorney’s Office said it was close to the maximum possible sentence under current law.
