ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) — From sedating fish to performing X-rays on elephants, every day brings something new for Albuquerque BioPark vet techs. With National Veterinary Technician Week coming to an end, we caught up with the staff that keep the BioPark’s animals happy and healthy.
One BioPark vet tech says they sometimes have to get creative to assist all types of creatures. “Here at the BioPark, we have to be inventive with our instruments that we use for animals under anesthesia,” said ABQ BioPark Vet Tech Iris Goddard. “We would make something like this for a bird as a breathing tube. And it’s basically an IV catheter that we attached an attachment to go into our anesthesia machine. And this is something we would use on, say, a tiger.”
There are currently three vet techs working at the BioPark who assist and support the veterinarians in procedures and exams. They also prepare medications, collect, and analyze samples…
