ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – Monday marks 10 years since a four-year-old was killed in a road rage shooting, sparking calls for drivers to keep their cool on the roads. Lily Garcia was killed after a driver in another car, Tony Torrez, opened fire back on October 20, 2015. Lily’s father told police that a red Toyota had cut him off as he drove on I-40, forcing him to swerve. The two drivers exchanged words when the gunshots rang out.

City and county officials re-launched the campaign two years ago. “I just hope that everybody you know when you are angry right behind the wheel, you think of my Lilly and just think that your life can be taken or your life can be changed in just a matter of minutes over something minute,” said Lily’s mother, Veronica Rael-Garcia, in 2023.
