County approves turning old tire shop into new community center

BERNALILLO COUNTY, N.M. — Bernalillo County leaders approved plans to turn an old tire shop into a new community center in northwest Albuquerque.

“They have been searching for a place for their community to come to gather. This is much more than that we are trying to do with this. [It’s] something we are branding as BernCo Builds Community. This is a community revitalization, as well as a purchase of a building for a center for all ages,” Commissioner Barbara Baca said.

It’s essentially a community center with sports, arts and a cafe. County commissioners say it supports the revitalization of that area…
