ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – An Albuquerque woman involved in a deadly shooting was sentenced on Monday. Judge Cindy Leos sentenced Elena Ornelas to 15 years in prison for second-degree murder. On January 21, 2023, Ornelas shot and killed Sadie Hill at an apartment complex in southeast Albuquerque.

According to a criminal complaint, the two women got into a fight that led to Ornelas shooting Hill, who died on scene. A witness said she was walking out into the courtyard when she heard the gunshot and turned around to see Hill fall to the ground. “It was clear that Sadie did not have any weapons. Sadie was yelling at the defendant; however, there were never any weapons identified as being in Sadie’s hands,” said a prosecutor.
