Albuquerque and Santa Fe police see improvement in recruiting efforts

SANTA FE, N.M. – Law enforcement departments across New Mexico are making changes to improve their recruitment and retention rates.

For both the Santa Fe and Albuquerque police departments, leaders say their efforts are starting to pay off. They say they’ve seen a big jump in academy applications and officers getting sworn in.

Santa Fe leaders point out the starting pay today is $35 an hour, compared to just over $19 an hour in 2017…
