ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – On Thursday, leaders announced a citywide effort to support Albuquerque families during the SNAP benefit suspension. City officials outlined donation sites and locations where community members can receive meals. This comes amid the ongoing federal government shutdown, which will have SNAP benefits suspended come Monday, except in New Mexico.

On Wednesday, Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham announced that the state will spend $30-million to cover SNAP benefits for ten days. Many community leaders said they are still concerned. “We’ll get through this. Our team is strong, and we’re rolling up our sleeves, as Nicole said. And we are ready for the challenge. And we don’t see any issues with our team helping everybody get through this,” said Eleanor Benavidez, Division Manager, City of Albuquerque Health and Social Services Center.
