On December 13, 2025, the Rio Rancho Police Department will introduce ten new automated mobile speed enforcement units. This is part of the City’s Safe Traffic Operations Program (STOP). The new units will replace the current vehicle-based cameras, which are being phased out. Verra Mobility will continue as the third-party vendor for equipment, deployment, and administration. The fine for speed violations will remain at $100 per citation.
After installation, there will be a 45-day warning period. During this time, only warning citations will be issued for speed violations. The locations for the new units are chosen based on police data and citizen input. A request to place cameras along N.M. 528 is under review by the state.
The enforcement thresholds will not change. Citations are issued for speeds 11 mph over the limit on city roads and 5 mph over in school zones. Each unit uses dual radar systems. All violations are reviewed by a sworn officer before a citation is issued…
