ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – An affordable housing complex for seniors in Albuquerque will keep its original name. Albuquerque city councilors approved a measure keeping the name Juniper Flats at the property on Hotel Circle. The city is looking to convert the old hotel into low-income housing for people over the age of 55.

The Keller Administration wanted to rename it Gateway Senior to link it to services aimed at transitioning people out of homelessness. Councilor Renee Grout opposed that name, saying Juniper Flats is not a shelter like other gateway programs.
