[1] Albuquerque pilot killed in UPS cargo plane crash – An Albuquerque resident was among three pilots killed in a fiery cargo plane crash earlier this week. FAA records show that 45-year-old Lee Truitt was a UPS pilot based out of Albuquerque. The jet went down on Tuesday after an engine separated from a wing during takeoff from an airport in Louisville. All three crew members on board and at least nine people on the ground died.

[2] Funding for NM attorneys who help indigent clients in federal cases runs out – Federal criminal cases across the country and in New Mexico could be at risk of not getting prosecuted as the funding for private attorneys who help the federal government defend suspects runs dry. The Criminal Justice Act is made up of private attorneys nation-wide who contract with the federal government. They help the public defenders office, taking on clients who can’t afford counsel. The panel says congress continues to cut funding and this year’s money ran out in July. Attorneys said New Mexico has higher federal cases than other states because of the pueblo and reservations, Air Force bases, and being along the border.

[3] Cooler air eventually returning & breezy – A cold front moved through New Mexico overnight, slightly cooling down temperatures Friday.
