Sunday Forecast: Cooler air settles into New Mexico

A temporary cool down has arrived in the Land of Enchantment. This morning many towns in northeast New Mexico are seeing temperatures 10 to 20 degrees cooler than just 24 hours ago (as of 6 am). A cold front arrived in eastern New Mexico on Saturday which has supplied cooler air and breezy conditions in Albuquerque. This morning winds have ranged in the upper teens and lower 20s at the International Sunport. Winds will diminish later this afternoon for calmer conditions and cooler high temperatures across the state. In Albuquerque high temperatures are forecasted to be seasonal, for the first time all month, while counties in eastern New Mexico will have highs roughly 5 to 10 degrees below normal.

Overnight, temperatures will drop into the 20s and 30s across the Land of Enchantment, which could mark some of the coldest air of the fall season, so far. A Freeze Watch will be in place in parts of Eddy and Lea counties from the National Weather Service. Conditions will gradually warm up through the week to be above normal in the lower elevations and valleys by midweek.

In addition, to the warmer temperatures cloud coverage is expected to return by Tuesday to the state. Breezy conditions will also return on Tuesday bringing temperatures above normal in eastern New Mexico due to downsloping winds. We will have to keep an eye on Roswell; the city could be slated to tie to set a new record high. Enjoy this seasonal Sunday in Albuquerque and have a good week!…
