Decision 2025: Fact checking the Albuquerque mayoral runoff debate

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – A lot of numbers were tossed around during the Albuquerque mayoral runoff debate hosted by KOB 4.

KOB 4 fact-checked the candidates’ statements. Albuquerque Mayor Tim Keller claimed homicides in the city have gone down. That claim was based on recent data from the Albuquerque Police Department comparing 2025 to 2024.

Keller accused his challenger, former Bernalillo County Sheriff Darren White, of dealing with 1,000 murders during his time as Public Safety Director for the state during the Gary Johnson administration in the 1990s. White countered, saying over 750 murders occurred under Keller’s tenure.
