City files emergency petition against Albuquerque book store

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – After a deadly weekend shooting, the City of Albuquerque has filed an emergency petition to block a homeless camp at a bookstore. Quirky Books on Jefferson near Central has allowed the homeless to camp on the property for the past three years.

The city filed a complaint earlier this month seeking a judge’s permission to clear the camp, saying APD responded to more than 230 calls for service there in the past year. On Saturday, police say 28-year-old Gregory Antone was shot and killed after an argument with people at the camp.

In a new emergency filing, the city says nearby residents will suffer irreparable harm if the camp stays up. The city is seeking an injunction to bar all camping on the property…
