ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) — City officials held a press conference on Wednesday highlighting the work of Albuquerque Community Safety’s violence intervention program as it works to address youth crime. ACS has been working with APD’s digital intelligence team to monitor how youth crime can be prevented.
The teams use their digital programs to detect when teens could be getting involved in criminal activity and notify the individual and their families of support services. “We engage with the individuals and trying to understand what it means to heal and to prevent additional crime,” said Violence Intervention Program ACS Deputy Director Jasmine Desiderio. “We address, identify what those systematic barriers might be. we also tackle the roots causes of their violence and their trauma and instead of punishing them and being a punitive program, we want to be there to support.”…
